It really honks me off these non-geographical numbers as I pay a fixed amount monthly for my telephone calls. Increasingly, companies are moving to these 0844 and 0845 numbers meaning now I am effectively paying twice.

It really got my goat when the doc's changed too!!

If anybody banks with Nationwide, use 01793 656789 instead of 08457 30 20 10!

our surgery had to get an 0845 number something to do with putting through calls to the out of hours service. It doesn't generate income for us as far as i'm aware.

An 0845 is aliased to an 01 number. I know this as 1) my ex-employers had 0845 numbers aliased to 0114 and 2) my 07005 number is aliased to my mobile!

You may have to have a 0845 number, but you will also have an 01 number that can also be used!

Yes you are right and we do have an 01 number which bypasses the messages and options to press whatever number for appointments/nhs direct/on-call service etc.

Think of it in terms of my next door neighbours for a minute.....

They can't get a BT line as the previous people did a bunk owing £500. This gets complicated for them as they lived in Spain for the last 3 years so no credit history. BT won't connect the line as they think a fast one is being pulled.

They can't get contract mobiles, no credit history so have to use pay as you go.

If he calls the surgery on an 01 number, it's 30p per minute. If the call lasts 3 minutes then that's 90p. BUT if he uses 0844, the cost is doubled. £1.80 for the same call. Tell me that's fair!

If I make the call on a BT line, it' s 22.5p + vat. (But as far as i'm concerned i've already paid and i'm paying twice for the same call).

Wow that's steep! ...... dont u pay like 15cent calls per call we do for long as u want.... Most Numbers here are 131232 or something and cost the same... banks all that...... As far as the ppl go who moved in BT sh ould really start a new account , they where old ppl owing $$$$$$$ Never have i been asked about previous tenants... cant they provide ID ?..... I remember when i went to uk in 1991 you guys where charged for making a local call timed? i was shocked ppl ketp saying your talkign for 1hr????? im like yeah it only cost 15cents then they told me ickkkkkkkkk..... whats the go with your calls now local?

We are stiffed for everything.

I am represenatative of middle England as regards earnings and property etc....and have to pay tax upon tax upon tax. It is happening more and more as evreyone wants more than a fair price.

Our Government have given us a bad deal all the way, that's not to say any successive government would do better.

Diesel 105.9p per litre, we pay road tax about £200 per year which isn't spent on roads and now loonies are wanting us to be taxed per mile!
We already are the more you drive the more fuel you use and pay more tax. This place is mad, we all need to leave and let the ranks of immigration run the country. Oh I'd better stop or I'll become very non-pc
